Yusuke Asai(Japan)

Now on view

Asai Yusuke has presented gigantic murals and ground paintings using white line materials for roads and soil in Japan and abroad. This artwork was created in Omachi Meitengai as a part of “Shinano Omachi 2014 – Food and Art Corridor”. With the theme of water and plants, various participants were asked to cut out materials for drawing white lines on the road, which were then fixed like a mosaic on the street of the Meitengai. A 150-metre-long original ground painting was completed with many stories overlapped and entwined on the town's famous shopping street, which retains the atmosphere of the Showa period when it flourished during the period of rapid economic growth. Today the painting remains and decorates Shinano Omachi as it has become a part of people’s everyday lives.
