WORK
Cultivate the Fields of Heart
Yu Wenfu(Taiwan)
The artist has launched a land art project, blending a rural landscape in summer and autumn with a winter snowy scene in Yasaka area where the satoyama lifestyle still remains strong. The process of planting 500,000 gradation-coloured bamboo strings in collaboration with the local community, like planting rice, shows the power of farmers who build up a deep feeling for the land and strong will through repetitive cultivation of the fields every year. “Field of Heart” in the title of the work means “how the heart is” in Chinese which is close to “Kokochi” or “Kokorone” in Japanese. By putting your feet into the rice field, the artwork creates an opportunity to cultivate your heart based upon intimate relations between people and people, people to land, and people to all things.
