WORK

Observatory for Sonkei (Respectable Landscape)

Ryota Kikuchi(Japan)

End

A unique artist who is a free climber. When seeing the grand view of Shinano Omachi from the Takagariyama lookout, it occurred to him that humans could be just pieces of a board game from the mountain’s perspective. He then links his body to a piece of a board game and presents a photographic work that records the performance of his entering the landscape of Shinano Omachi. Viewers can search for places that the artist approached through binoculars on the lookout. Confronted with the question of “where is the boundary between where humans can and can’t go?” he uses his body as a means of dialogue and pushes the limit of common sense.
