What has happened / What will happen

Maaria Wirkkala(Finland)

End

Lake Nakatsuna where the artwork is presented is known for an old legend saying that the sound of the temple bell which was washed away by an earthquake can still be heard today. The shores of the lace are connected to the sea and mountains by the "salt road", which was used in the Edo period to transport materials from sea and land. Inspired by this legend and the nature and history of Lake Nakatsuna, the artist has developed a series of works based on the theme of water and salt in the form of two cottages, a boat on the lake, a lakeside bench, a stone Buddha and the sound of a bell, which intersect the past and the future as you stroll along the lakeside. “To walk around and take some steps at the salt road. To step into the two houses. To share – to be a part of the old legend. Presence of the past. Presence of the future. What if my roots were here? To feel the global through this local. What has happened. What will happen.”
