WORK
Stories of Omachi until Today
Noriko Watanabe(Japan)
The artist has continued to create a tiny world in a 5cm square box. She expresses a unique view of the world by giving titles to box gardens made of collages of small everyday objects. She has created over 300 works to date. A work consisting of picks for bento boxes combined with beads and spangles is called “New Starcatcher” whereas another work treating twelve candles used for a birthday cake as trees is called “A Forest after Birthday”. For this work, she brings memories of the local people of Omachi and the history of the town into a small box. In addition to her work, the works created by local people will be presented together, and visitors peeking into these boxes will be invited to a journey of memories.
