WORK

The Roots of Heaven

Kaori Miyayama(Japan / Italy)

An installation work appears at the point where the ground and the sky are at their closest, where you can feel the unity of heaven and earth. Sunuma shrine, the location of this work, stands in a sacred forest, with a rural view looking up at the Northern Alps. There is a shrine standing before your eyes beyond a torii gate, a symbol of the borders between the sacred and the common, eternity and reality, where you are connected to the earth through the “forest of roots”, and you feel the sea of clouds flowing in heaven through the “root of the sky.”

Kaori Miyayama

Kaori Miyayama(Japan / Italy)

Born in 1975 in Tokyo, and currently based in Italy and Japan. Miyayama focuses on “perception” and “spatiality” in border areas that are constantly fluctuating under cultural and generational factors. Using various media, she creates the time and space of a “moment in shift”, in which she explores a multi-angled and relativistic point of view to discover connections rather than isolations.
