33 Bamboo Waves

Nikolay Polissky

Polissky builds large-scale structures by hand from natural materials such as snow, wood, and hay and in the year 2000, he created a work called “Snowmen” in which he cooperated with local residents to create over two hundred snowmen. In his first visit to Japan, he was deeply moved by the beauty of the bamboo forest in Yasaka, an area dotted with small farming villages that embody the idyllic scenery of traditional Japan. The unprecedented bamboo structure of “Bamboo Waves” is built with the help of the resilient local people and overlooks the landscape of Yasaka.
